Classic 2CV 24 hours, Snetterton, 8 & 9th August 2009 - By Steve Humphrey, a BMMC & Silverstone Marshal Team Member.
'Why?'
That was the usual response I got from people when I said I had volunteered to marshal at this years 24 hour race for 2CVs. Interestingly, none of these people have ever attended the event. Those that have gave a slightly different response, usually along the lines of 'best weekend of the year, you'll love it!'. So I set off at a stupidly early time on the Saturday morning, knowing that the next chance of any real sleep would be in about 40 hours time.

By Terry Scannell:
This is just a quick note of thanks from myself and all of the Snetterton marshals, to thank the 2CV Racing Club members for raising the spendid sum of £348.00 from the post race BBQ for the marshals.
This amount was passed to me recently by the Tyrrell's Restaurant Team and is now in the safe keeping of Mike Whitney, our Snet BARC Chief Marshal to use in the most appropriate manner for the benefit of the marshals.

To all the Marshals & Competitors involved in the 2009 2cv 24hr meeting. A sincere Thank You from everyone in Race Control to everybody involved over the weekend for all their hard work and total support.
Without everybody pulling together throughout the event it wouldn't have been the success it was. Cheers Vickie MacClinton Clerk of the Course.

These are some of the messages from the marshals who attended the 2009 24hr 2CV race, detailing their experiences and thoughts:
This was my first ever 24hour event, and at the age of 19 all of my mates were a bit perplexed at why I wanted to go and stand in a field watching small, slow(ish) French cars drive around an airbase all day and night. I too had my doubts, but it was utterly fantastic. The racing kept going right down into the last hour, some drivers put in incredible drives, and summing it all up was the number 60 College car that finished a valiant 200 laps or so behind! |
