Next year will be the 20th anniversary of 2cv racing in this country .In my opinion this is quite some acheivement and we should do something to mark it .Ideas anyone?

Having looked at the picture of all the cars lined up at Mallory, i noticed that only a few cars now have the club strip across the top of the windscreen.
I would suggest a commemorative club sun strip to advertise the matter of this great achievement.
The club could also make a rule that it must be displayed on all cars.
David
Thats because there isn't an official windscreen sticker. If there was, the placement of it is already covered in the regulations
well my idea is half way there already! :D
We'd be happy to help.....
A Racing T-shirt etc

Found this whilst wandering around youtube. The 2cvs are at the end of the film.

Well found, Derek
All I can say is thank god for uprated springs!!
Fabulous derek, i must have been standing very close to him by the looks of the video. What a handful they were then.I think i saw a glimpse of sparrow in the matt black car but it could have been daryl stokes.
Pete Sparrow's car is the matt black one I think. I emailed this to Graham Harper as well, he said that his first 2cv race was at Snetterton in Wee Fiona (which the Hollises now have).
I was there! looks like 4th on the first lap and got up the inside to 3rd on the next one.
it was all down hill after that with poor results and a massive book of excuses at the ready. I lent it to someone but can't remember who....
 thats awesome! I was at Mallory yesterday for a marshal training day, & theres some work being done to the track, the trees at the hairpin are gone & it looks like the approach is going to be a lot wider.......
ohhh!
that will be fun then...
I emailed the chap whose film it is; this is the reply.
Hi Derek thanks for your message.
I have a bit more film from that Mallory meeting, a short clip of practice from the other side of the hairpin and another 60secs or so of the race. If the club want to use it in some way feel free, just mention my website!
What I will do is put it all together in one clip and post it on youtube seperately, in a day or two, just the Mallory 2cv stuff. Looking forward to another great Snett 24!

Oh I know Andrew, and he knows me from back in the day :) I'll get in touch with him when then new site is running, and I'm sure we can get some good video up on the site for all to enjoy!
Bump
Somebody mentioned taking part in a hillclimb; we did this a few years ago at Harewood but I'm not sure who organised it.
I still like the idea of 125 tyres and standard springs.
From talking to people about how expensive things can be etc, I like the idea of standard springs and tyres too Derek.
Oh yeah, (near) standard engines too without an expensive camshaft ;)
For those with a long memory - Hello from the Fat Controller.
If someone would like to give me an address I have some video footage that may be of interest.
First up is Project 2cv's first trip to Mondello (anyone remember the ferry strike?) at which the team won the "Ian Gammon Hardaway Spirit of the Event " award.
Second is more Mallory
& Third is yours trully being interviewed by SKY TV plus some coverage of an Oulton Race
Thats what I think I've got but who knows it's been a long time since I had anything to play them on. So if someone can convert it all to CD and let me have a copy back I'll shove it in the post!
Hi From the Fat Controller
I've got video coverage from Mondello, Mallory and Oulton plus a SKY interview
Where do I send it?
Blimey martin when did you escape?Guess all that weight loss mean't you slipped between the bars when they were all looking for a fat bloke with a beard, next thing we know there'll be a fat bloke with long hair and a posh accent saying he's michael storey or something.
can't help with transferring the video, but good to see you're still lurking, although all the young girls have grown up now you know.
It's all done in the best possible taste you know.
Paul
Hi Martin,
Send an e-mailo address i can contact you on, to '
[email protected]'
I'll then let you have my address to post the cd to. hopefully this may be the first lot of stuff for the you tube channel.
best regards
Andrew Bull
So how many people fancy going to mondello and what sort of format race or races would you like if we went?
Does it have to be Mondello? I'd love to go, but being on a really tight budget it will depend on what else we are doing next year......
Got to agree with CTD, depends on the race format for next year etc, as well as amount of time off work needed. I'm struggling this year to spend a weekend at home!
Trevor
I'd love to go back to Mondello; as for the format, if we can be inveigled into a 2-day meeting we could maybe have 3 races? Just an idea. Does anyone know how many cars there are in Ireland? After the last 24hr there there was talk of an Irish series but it never got off the ground, there may be half a dozen or so.
It looks like it would all have to be on one day derek.they can only run from 9am to 6 pm.I thought if we had a long race with co drivers and maybe one sprint we could take 3/4 drivers as per 24hr teams and split the cost .
I'd be happy with that, Paul. I'd be even happier if it was dark and raining, though....
weirdo....
me too.
So only two of us then derek,at least we would both make the podium. If we didn't break down of course.
Count me in. A 5 or 6 hour race would be great. Never been to Mondello !!! I could grab that last place on the Podium !!!
I'll fight you for it.... :o
I didnt say I wasnt interested! ::)
Just wondering when the proposals for next year have to be with BARC? If there's anniversary stuff to be included it may be as well to sort it out as soon as possible? Requests for particular circuits, dates and so on.
Now here's a thought for you!
Many years ago I was approached by the folks that run the racing on the Isle Of Man who wanted to offer us a package. However, Mondello was on the calender then so 2 awy meets was thought to be to expensive.
They offered - Racing, a sprint and a hill climb plus subsidised ferry (leave spare cars, vans etc in a pound at Liverpool docs)
Juts a thought, and of course Croix un Turnois was a good trip
Id find cash for a trip to the isle of man! Would be cautious on the cost of ferry over though, it aint called the steam racket for nothing!
If we did decide to move, I'd vote for Croix. Nice tight circuit, good facilities, lots of twisty bits, a bit like Mondello, even has two left-handers. And, channel crossing fares as low as £60 return, but obviously more with a trailer. Not too windy, and even possibly dry. Frank B would just love it!
I favour going to France but what sort of licence would drivers need to compete there? When the Morgans went to Zandvoort a couple of years ago we ran our own race under our series regulations. Would this apply at Croix?
We would run to our british regs mary.
i have made some tentative enquiries about returning to mondello aand it looks like tow 25 minute races and a 3 hour race would cost about 25000 euros with a 28car grid .The ferry would be about £220 with trailer, so all in all about £940 plus fuel .Obviously the extra drivers for the 3 hr rce would reduce the costs some what but still expensive for a weekends fun.
I think the IoM package that Martin's talking about was at Jurby; SMRC were offered a race meeting there, probably about the same time I'd guess. Trouble with the Island is that I'd have to get the car MOTd - no way I'm going there and not doing a lap!
I presume there's going to be a race at Mallory as close to the original date as possible?
Can I put in a word for Knockhill (as usual)?
It would appear that mondello is just too expensive ,so back to the drawing board.
Paul,
What price does Croix come in at ?
Knockhill works for me, and its in a diffrent country ;)
Derek, you wont know what to do with yourself without a mega-trip to get there

I am making the relevent enquiries at the moment andy.
In spite of proximity, I'd need to camp over; I missed out last time as I was still building the car through the night and didn't get involved with the karting.
Heard about it from the staff in Kirkcaldy later though......karts on top of the tyres...?
"Bunch o'bammers" would be the mild version of their comments.
I was at the classic race meeting at silverstone this weekend. Is it worth trying to get a stand or even a race there as its our 20th?
Also we are now a classic racing championship. Might not have 500k cars but might be worth a go.
I think Marc's idea of chatting with the organiser of Silverstone Classic for '09 is great.
High-end cars are fascinating and essential to the event. But, we could be the 'fun race'. Organiser is Roger Etcells of Motion Works. The event is scheduled again for the last weekend of July.
I also think Marc's idea is excellent, having just watched wall-to-wall coverage of the event on Motors TV. No chance for me of competing in one of the exotics, but an outside possibility I guess of sharing in a fabulous meeting at the wheel of a trusty Dersh...
Well it be great if we can do it! Over 50 thousand people on the sunday! Never seen so many women at a race track either! lol :P

Ulterior motives marc? lol :D
It was actually really nice though seeing more girls out racing. Most seem to have rich daddy's or husbanmds though. Nothings changed there then! hehe ;D
Before everyone starts getting over-excited, can I suggest a bit of clarity here?
Firstly, the historic race meeting is on the full circuit at silverstone. We do the National circuit in 1:30, so imagine how long the lap would be? Dull, dull, dull
Secondly, look at the races and entries that were there. Do you really think that we would even get a sniff of the chance of a race? Get real!
Just because the club has changed its name doesn't make us an historic race series! It just means we have changed our name!!
The historic event is a major thing at Silverstone, so god knows how much it costs to put on, but you can be assure that it would be a very long way north of the cost of our 24 hour race (which in itself is a not inconsiderable sum of money!
I fully support the wish to celebrate the 20th anniversary of the club, but lets do it somewhere where we have the control of what we do
I was there with the porshe 944 and believe the entree fees were the same as normal. Think it was about £600 for 2 x 25min races but will find out.
Other cars that were there included minis, hilmans etc of course there were there seriously expensive cars.
Trev is right though it is a big event with 50k odd people there. Silverstone seemed to put a lot of effort into the event.
If we decide to apply for it we will have to have a very good reason for them to let us in. Looking at the other cars that were there our cars would match the quality of the cars that are there. There were some scruffy ones and some that looked like toys!
Surely its worth having a go?
Also is it worth trying goodwood? I know it invitation only but if you don't ask you don't get! This year has shown he have the numbers and fantastic racing! ;D
Cuckoo ;D
Sorry for the crap ideas will shut up and not suggest anything else! Only ideas
Well done Trevor & Andy. I think we called it 'Not invented here' when I worked in agencies.
Some great ideas came out of such imagination. And I think they knew how to spell 'cuckoo'...
Let's not fight over it. Yes, we need imagination - for every 100 ideas any organisation has, 95 will go in the bin - one never knows which will work out. On the other hand, we also must be aware of practicalities, as Trev points out.
It has only been suggested that someone from the club goes along and has a chat with Roger. You never know what might emerge. As a minimum, we could probably put on a static display. Clubs like ours will be queueing at his door, but some might just take his fancy.
More practically, now that we have a, hopefully warmer, August date at Snet, surely there are many more possiblities for building our own 24hr event into something bigger. Currently, it does not seem to interest MSV or BARC to put on support races any more interesting than BARC F Renault etc. If we could get a motors event promoter on our side, then maybe things could change.
Dont lose your enthusiasm for pushing these things marc, they're not crap ideas, maybe just a bit beyond us at the moment :)
Good stuff Andy. I like your swift edit!
After a fantastic weekends racing at spa, is it not possible for the club to organise and partly fund a weekend at spa. The track and facilities are second to none! What a way to celabrate 20 years!! ;D
