Title: 2009 24 Hour race
Post by: Trevor Williams on November 21, 2008, 11:45:18
If the article in Autosprot is correct, we will be the ONLY 24 hour car race in the UK next year (again)

What about pushing that fact in the press when the dates are finally confirmed??

Great idea Trev! ;D

Also think we need to try and get some cars out for hire! We have loads of people wanting drives already!

Once the date is confirmed, which I guess will be quite soon, and I'm told that w/e of August 9 is almost certain, then we should get all the facts together to incude contacts for race car hire. A few nice hi-res pics will be useful.

I'm sure that I can get Edd Straw to place the story prominently in Autosport. Matt James, who was one of this years commentators and has already asked to do it again next year, will do the same for us in MotorSport News.

A thought. At Llandow, they are not too fussy about race licences. We could plan a test day there in April and invite some journos along. Crash hat and long sleeves is all they need. I'll offer to run our car there, and another would be welcome.

We could invite them to the anniversary track day martin, on the 9th of may.

Good idea - we could do a note to as many journo names as we can find, talking about the big Mallory 20 years w/e, and if they wanted to get some in-car track experience and pics for an article, offer them Llandow.

Does anyone have access to a list of motoring journos?

How about a guest race? With a suitable pause for repairs before the race proper...

1) Most journos don't have racing licences - fortunately

2) Will you pay for the parts?

martin - I am happy to take my car to Llandow in April if it helps and broadly let anyone drive it. I also have a spare seat that we can put in as well.

Nick - thanks for the offer. Things may be coming together on this project, and if and when they do, I'll get back in touch.

Publicity is  a great idea. I tried several jounalists last year and even offered a drive to the Motorsport editor. Even BARC were reluctant to print much, we got a brief article but no pictures and we wrote it. I think the trick is to send a press release that can be turned into an article with minimum effort by the journo.

Any help this year would be gratefully received by anyone with a thick skin!  Even

If we could get a small team together and make a co-ordinated effort....any volunteers Martin, Trevor? :P

Trying to winkle the general and even technical press out of London is always tough, particularly with editorial budgets increasingly tight.  Llandow and even Mallory will be viewed as long hauls. They're much more likely to make the effort if the venue is easily accessible to the capital, i.e Brands, Goodwood, maybe Silverstone, which involves the Club in extra hassle of course. Question: is it worth it?
One thought however: what about trying The One Show? They're pretty quirky in their choice of topics to be covered & use the car park outside the Television Centre for displays and stunts from time to time. I remember that beautifully presented car featured at the RAC Club. Perhaps that, with the offer of a passenger ride somewhere for Adrian Childs or Christine Hinkley? Not sure of the viewing figures for The One Show but I had a mention on there recently & was staggered by the number of old chums who got in touch...
