Title: Race Retro 2018 - volunteers needed
Post by: Chris Yates on February 09, 2018, 17:33:09
We're doing the Race Retro show again as last year's was reasonably successful. It is hoped that our presence at the show, combined with the upcoming Top Gear feature will really raise our profile.

Our stand this year is more than double the size of last year's - 6m x 4.5m. The plan is to have 2 cars on the stand and a 'garage' theme, with some banners and a few props to make it look like a garage during the 24hr. A TV and laptop playing some race videos will be there also.

What we now need to give consideration to is manning the stand. The show runs on Friday, Saturday and Sunday (09:30-17:30, Sunday 09:30-16:30), and we could do with at least 2 people on the stand most of the time, plus another one or two to be there so the first two can take a break, get food, etc.

If you'd like to volunteer for this, please get in touch!

The show is on the weekend of the 23rd-25th of Feb. I.e. about 2 weeks away.

Current volunteers:

Friday : Maria, Nick Roads, Colin Wilson, Wayne
Saturday : Matt Hollis, Steve Walford
Sunday : Maria, Chris, Shirley Hennessy, Jess Owen

TV - does anyone have a big screen TV or monitor we could borrow for the show?

Chris: We have a big flat screen, stored in Birmingham near the centre. I'm not yet sure about my availability on build up or the open days. But if someone is passing, we could make it an easy pick up and drop off. It's quite heavy.

Pretty certain that I will be there on Friday anyway.
I don't mind covering the stand for a while.

We have 5 wristbands available per day. I've had 2 per day sent to me and the rest will be ready to pick up from the venue so it's probably best if Chris or I meet whoever's coming and get them admitted, certainly on the Friday and Sunday. One or both of us will most likely end up there Saturday too.

Not sure what you mean by "take a car in". I have some exhibitor car parking passes that I'll post out with wristbands.

Looks like I will be there from opening on Saturday to about lunch time. How does that fit in with the stand staffing schedule? Martin

The Club stand was in the main Hall 2. It looked great with two shiny racers on it and live video. There was a big crowd in the hall most of the time and lots of them stopped by the Club stand for a chat. Many new contacts made. Great work by the team led by Maria Cooke and Chris Yates.

I agree, thanks to everyone involved and who gave up their time over the 3 days, and special thanks to Chris and Maria for all the effort they put in before, during and after the event
