Looking at the regs, the deadline for entries for the 24 hour race is 1 March - this Friday. Is there any flex on this, or is it a firm deadline?

I've sent Howard an email explaining the situation that the 1st of March is the 'early bird' deadline for just the 24hr race. You can still enter the 24hr race right up until early august, but you don't get such an attractive discount as if you enter before the 1st of March.
Similarly for the sprints there's an 'early bird discount'. which finishes on the 15th. You can still enter races after that, but it costs a little more.
