Title: Engine sounds
Post by: Nathan Pasho on June 15, 2006, 00:06:18
We had a guy in the UK record some sounds for us, and they came out really well, but Marc had a listen to them, and said they sounded like an unmodified car.

The sounds are here:

It's a bit tricky if you have not used Rapidshare before.

Any one of you folks have an audio recorder and the inclination to play with it?  :P

Is there not some sound on the Spa clip that's online somewhere? Would give you a comparison to what you currently have, though can't remember the link, it's on the forum somewhere ... !

Title: Racecar sounds

The car recorded was car 69 from this years race.
It runs the same Pete Sparrow exhaust as half over the cars these days.
What were expecting a meaty V8 sound?????

I got a clip of this years Snetterton race, and Marc is right.  The external sounds seem to be missing a lot of the bass, I guess just not picked up by the mic.

We are blending the sounds to try to get the right effect.

Personally, I wouldn't have said 2cv exhausts have a lot of bass ... racing or otherwise, but maybe there's someone more musical amongst us who could confirm!

Catherine, did you listen to the sounds that I posted?  What do you think of them?

Unfortunately not as I'm unable to download :(

Not very good with computers!

I think some of the difference in sound could be down to how far the mic is away from the car. On the recording we did the mic was only one foot away from the front of the car. This is very different to the sound on track. The best thing to do would be to get some on track recording done at the next race at Anglesey next weekend.

That would be good Paul.  I'll email Lee and see what he thinks.

Thanks for letting Lee work with your car, by the way. :)

Lee will not be able to make it to the race this weekend.  Anyone else interested in some more audio recording just for kicks?
