The new organisers of the Belgian series have added a new "classic" class to their races, this means that English 2CV's are now permitted to race.
Anyone interested!!!
Let me know
Cheers
Philip
Absolutely
Ben
Isn't that going to be a little scary? Being lapped by the Belgians every couple of laps...
It won't be that frequent chris .In 2000 we were doing sub 4 minute laps in the english cars this is similar to the a class car that steve panas et al were in last year.
The bmw and proto's are probably doing 3.minute 20's so they will need more looking out for.
I am 'IN' if anyone will have me .....don't have a car anymore !! :(
November? Won't be an awful lot of daylight. Interested, unless I end up pit crewing again. UK cars are very similar spec. to the Belgian "Améliorée" class cars; the regs are downloadable from their website, but this year's ones may not be available yet.
And they're in French!
Could be worse, Trev, they could be in Flemish!
I can translate if you need it.
I'll give you Flemish....
I'm definitely up for it!
Whats the next step? I don't have a car any more, so give me a buzz on 07961154858 if youre thinking of taking a car/team to the event. I'd love to be involved!
Oli
Just phoned Glen. He is up for maybe taking our car over there.
The other thing is he is thinking of buying on of the french cars to use just for spa. will keep you posted.
All very well all this talk of the belgian 24 hour race.
What you ALL have to remember is that we have a club and championship in this country, that if not well supported, will fold in the not very far future
So before you all start promising to race in Spa, remember to support YOUR club!!!!!
Trevor
On that note we still need a driver or we are not doing the 24hr race.
Marc
Have you contacted Catherine Noble with your request?
Yeah. She gave me 2 names. One was a ex champion and think he wants more than we can offer and the other the email was wrong. He was from Australia.
Try Patrick Collier. 2nd last year
Steve
Who was the aussie contact?
Cant remember his name. Has done the race a few times before though.
Marc
Was it Maurice o'Reilly?
Marc / Trevor,
I think Tim Dobson is looking for a drive and is currently working / living in Sydney, but is obviously planning to be back for the 24HR. He has raced a number of times with Paul Taylor's MRB team. I think his contact details are on the members contact list.
So maybe Tim was the name you were given but if not you could give him a try.
Nick.
Maurice is looking for a ride this year but would spit more than feathers at being even closly linked to being an aussie... somthing his aussie wife, great lady, I am sure finds amusing....
Maurice is NZ by the way
If anyone is thinking of going to Spa and is still scouting around for another driver count me in. With a five week old baby I'm getting to be an expert at not sleeping for long periods of time!
I have just joined this forum and saw this toppic.
We are trying to make next years 24H in Snetterton. If we make that, we will definitely take part in Spa '08. Are the technical rules going to be the same as for the 24H of Snetterton? And has anyone have an idea of the costs to enter the 24H of Spa?
Hope to be there next year and you will hear a lot from us comming year (especially about building the car). Hope that you can help us a bit then.

hello Roderik
if we race in belgium the idea is to keep our cars as they are, this means that we will not have to use dry break refueling which you have had to have under FIA regulations. I know that the Belgian series has had a bit of a shake up and they may be using another organiser, if this is correct then dry break systems may not be required. From what i had heard the british 2cv's would use a special area to refuel with cans or bottles and be in this area for a set amount of time, say 3 minutes to stop people rushing. Steve Panas or Phil Myatt are going there this year with a T class (BMW engine) car, they may be able to help you more. As far as cost goes i don't think there is a confirmed amount but i would guess it would be more expensive than here (it has been up to now)
I saw what Derek said earlier about the A class cars, these will be similar in weight but should be slightly more powerful (some A class cars will give P class cars a run for their money), they also have more aerodynamic bodywork so have a faster top speed.
It will be good to see you here next year and i hope you will ask for any help you need.
regards
Pete
Pete,
I'm all up for refuelling with cans or bottles, though I think I wouldnt pass the breath test!!!!!!
Wheres the Jack????
Trevor
I think that the A class cars' regs are pretty similar to ours, with the exceptions of cams (free) and bodywork (as discussed). If you build a car to compete in the UK series it should, barring refuelling,be eligible for the Belgians' series as an Ameliorée.

Hey Spatlo,
It should read:-
"Steve Panas,Phil Myatt and Andy Smith are going there this year with a T class (BMW engine) car, they may be able to help you more."
The purrrring T-bird is co-owned by the 3 of us.
But on reflection I know nothing, so no point in anybody ringing me!!!!
Just to add my name to those looking for a drive at Spa, so I can say I was flat thru Eau Rouge. Seriously, any rentadrive opportunities will be welcomed,
Frank
thought you were retiring Frank?
Still if you haven't been you gotta go - our 2cv's are a bit slow up the hills but there is some lovely country side to look at while you go round.
Well i think we may have a drive free. Will keep you informed.
Add me to the list looking for a ride
I'm on for going.
trouble is i can't pay!
if you want a reasonable driver with Spa Knowledge and 2 race wins and fastest laps I'm yer man. I'm also good at ordering chips and mayonase, beers and that apple snapps stuff that almost put me in hospital one year. (you got to know when to stop..). I'm a good laugh and don't mind getting my hands dirty.
promised the wife I wouldn't spend any money on racing, doesn't mean i can't go if i get invited does it?
Pete, i told my X wife that with rallying....It dont always work..
Anyway. My mechanics and the other drivers are sending me daft about this 24hr race in Belgium.
Can you help us with a few questions.
1. When is it? How much approx?
2. I think our car Alice will be OK(Once lightened)
3. What about licence. When i rallied in Belgium had to upgrade to National A Rally(still hold) But still on Nat B Novice Race is this OK?
4. Any silly rules... I know when we use to do the Monteberg rally sprints
you had to have a ground sheet to service on..if you didnt i think they use to fine you or exclude you!!!
5.If its only half as good as the rallying it will be the mutts nutts!!!!
Let us know (or anyone at 2CV Forum) My men are driving me mad!!!
By the way moneys rolling in for Alices Dream...
Havent forgot everyone will post something about Snett soon

to race abroad you will need at the least a National A Licence
Karl
msa told me this week that I simply need to be able to prove that I have raced and completed (must have finished) 6 MSA approved races "recently" (eg does not have to be all in 2007) to upgrade.
so team may have to cancel their holidays and race at silverstone and/or anglesey (looking at trevors other posts on forum these may well count as 2 races as races are on separate days) to get 6 in this year per driver in 2cv's
No need for signatures , a completed race sheet (which you can get from Barc website I guess) should be sufficient - then you can upgrade from Nat B to Nat A
upgrade lot simpler than in the past apparently - takes 5 days
spa website says date is Nov 10 / 11 for "2 cv" so guess its then
Nick
Thanks for mentioning the date of Spa. It has, of course, been changed since we made our ferry bookings! The original date has now been given to ADAC so it looks as though the Belgian 2Cvs are being treated like the poor relations, too, and shuffled to suit someone with more clout.
Nick / Karl
If you are willing to risk goung abroad to race with the details that the MSA have told you, don't be surprised if you get turned away. It is up to the authority in the Country that you would be racing in to set the minimum licence requirement, not the MSA
There are all kinds of penalties that may be applied to anyone racing in Europe without the correct licence, and that Licence is National A Minimum.
Take some time and read both the Blue Book and the International Sporting Code.
Cheers
Trevor
When we raced there in 2000 we had to upgrade to Nat.A, ask those that were there last year (Steve Panas, Andy Smith). Don't forget that you can get a signature for doing a day's marshalling (can be good fun, too).
Competed in the race last year.
I needed :-
1 National A license
2 MSA Visa.
The visa confirms your license details and that MSA have no objections to you racing.
That said the helmet/raceware regs are more stringent. Apparently you get hotter fire at Spa !!!
Steve had to buy a new helmet and loan a race suit at the circuit, which was legal here.
But it is well worth it just to drive around SPA.
Guessed so!
I thought the minimum would be a Nat A as i had this before with the Rallying. Think it maybe a bridge to far this year unless the MSA will count my 3 stints at Snett as 3 races!!! (Dont think so).
The other lads will struggle as well to get enough to upgrade, but if we can get mallory and pembrey that will help and maybe another Stowe?
These will all count for next year.
I will talk to the lads.
Anyway we can all come and watch (or spanner) as required, Good excuss
to drink beer with everyone, providing Mr Sparrow dont finish it all off first !!!
See you all
Karl
