Just come of the phone to Steve Sykes. He thinks we should know what is happening about Spa in the next few days.
They are having the same problem as mondello with someone moving next to the track then moaning.
There will be a race just waiting to hear if its a 24hr or 2x8hr races.
Whatever happens we can run in our own class

The difference being that I presume Spa has a licence for 24 hr races whereas Mondello didn't?

I think there was a 24hr race there not that long ago - can't remember if it was saloons or sportscars - is that what alerted said chap to the fact that he'd bought a house near a racetrack?

Two 8hr races, not 3?

No Geoff we would be racing with the other cars but in our own class.

Steve was saying that spa have been given 6x24hr tickets. They are trying to sort out if they have any left or if we can use one. There was a race a few weeks ago and they used 2 of the tickets as they had practice on the thursday as well as the race.

Here's the site of the race 'organiser'
http://www.amcxl.org/ - not much hint of anything there - a bit sad even...

And this is what the organiser of the 2cv club meeting at the event has to say:

La Vie à Deuche a.s.b.l. : COMMUNIQUE

Amis deuchistes,

Later.....
Well, looks like it's 'back on' then (see next page) - brilliant - the above is just the decision by the club that organises the 'road' 2cv camp at the venue - I think they just had to make a decision at some time as to whether to commit to organising that part of it.

Shame about the campsite/rally. They can't be doing it just to get out of giving me it free because they threw my tent out last year.....

They're only allowed a certain number of 24hr races there each year; it may be that they've used up their allowance, which would be a pity. Time to get it sorted out a bit better for next year.

A disaster for the belgian series and something we should all be aware of when thinking that another organising club may be a good way for us to go

It says roughly :
This year a new organisation makes the 2cv race competition, and they choose 10-11th november to race 24H. But they didn't get autorisation to race by night. Instead of that they were talking about have 2 races... but maybe it will change and there will be 24 hours race!! -->
"La Vie à Deuche" decided because of that, to do not organise the meeting...

Post by: philip myatt on September 06, 2007, 07:39:01
It was confirmed yesterday that Spa will this year be called 24h24, this is to celebrate it gaining approval to run through the night, and will run for 24hours 24mins. Entry fee 2500 euro approx.
English championship cars allowed, refuelling as Snett.
A concession is that it will comply with Zolder noise rules, that means 95db.
So, who's going????
It's commitment time guys, all the doubts are over its 100% happening.
Let me know if your going to join us.

Philip

What rules are we running too? Are we going to run in the classic class or by our own rules?
Paul was on about changing carbs etc. I think if we are going over we should have our own class with nothing changed.
Some of us dont have the time or money to be rolling roading a new carb etc

Phil, do you know i there's an official deadline for entries yet? Also, I assume the licence requirements will be National A minimum? I'm planning to drive there, hopefully with Glenn Burtenshaw, Robin Webb and ANO, but it's yet to be firmed up...

As the race is in November I'd guess at a deadline sometime in October. Just a guess, mind. I'm 95% sure I'm going, but less sure what I'll be doing when I'm there.

I don't know yet, but I'll almost certainly be there either way. No vie a deuche site means I don't know where there's camping to be had. I did speak to someone about driving but I can't remember who it was!

I've just noticed in the regulations for the Belgian series that ONLY Citroen chassis may be used - no exemption for the Classic class. Can this be changed and will it be strictly applied?

Dick, is that the campsite that we used last year (the one that Roy said wasn't happening)?

Hello

Yes - the atmospheric (smokey) campsite with Paul Foucant's marquee.

As it is later in the year the supply of hot coffee, hot wine and hot bonfires will be even more important.

I will let you know as soon as I hear what the arrangements are.

Hi Derek

Think i may have said something to you about spa as we had a spare seat. There is still a drive going but i know there are people interested in doing it. If your interested let me know. My email is [email protected]. Only problem now is our car is running on a frome chassis. Fingers crossed we will be allowed in!

Hello

I have had this reply to my question about the 'normal' 2CV side of the Spa event from Thierry, one of the organisers.

......"Big changes this year, new race organisation, new date (10 and 11 th November) and for fun, new timing 24H24'.

About the meeting, we cannot at the moment confirm our club would be there to organize as we did in the past. In one week we should know at which conditions we could work there and give a positive or negative answer. So, be patient.

Friendly Thierry"

We now have 3 drives available in our car as both Robin and Glenn are in america racing in the legends world finals. Glenn is 4th in his series so obviously that is taking over as he could win the series.
Frank B may have one of the drives. If your interested in a drive give me a ring on 07793009668

Title: Oh, what fun we had
Post by: David Bain on November 13, 2007, 21:34:09
Thanks for the entertainment to all those who competed at Spa. Those who weren't there could, perhaps, visualise it as this year's Snetterton without the summery bits. Only those who did it will be able to imagine what it must have been like driving their stints in horizontal sleet and bucketing rain. We camped through it at Eau Rouge between bouts of masochistic spectating and that was bad enough. As the saying goes, you don't have to be daft but it's a big help.

Car 63 Myatt,Panas and Smith went with last years race winning car, after qualifying they were 7th on the grid .At race start Captain Fast made up 4 places and was running a strong 3/4 place until 28 minutes when the gearlever selector in the top of the gearbox broke and he was stranded at the bus stop .We applied for a tow back (you have to state where the car is and on which side of the track)and the car was duly returned to the pits.Where the enthusiastic pit crew started to take the gearbox out, only to be stopped by a knowledgeable belgian who took the gear lever out showed us the broken part and then helped us find and fit a replacement.
We then had a trouble free run until around 6.50 when the car came back in with a very sick gearbox. The pitcrew were helping to repair the 74 car that we were sharing the pit with at the time and carried on doing so as it was apparent that 63 was deader than a dead thing and would need major resusitation.Having helped get 74 going we pushed 63 into the back of the garage and while the pitcrew of Pervert, Uncle,Starsky, Mr Hollis(sir)and leibchen 1 and leibchen2(as they had were later affectionately named)got on with the pain in the buttocks task of removing engine and gearbox. This took 4 ,yes that's right 4 hours.
The kind loan from Team Manitou of a spare gearbox meant that at 6.30 in the morning the car was ready for a driver, however one was not found until 7.47 when smith took the wheel and we started the long climb (35lapsor 2hours and 20 minutes) up from last place by the time myatt took over we were about 20 laps behind and as panas took over for the last session we had risen pheonix like from last place to next but last (what a relief)however our joy was to be short lived as steve came on theradio to say he only had 3rd and 5th gears (at this point we had just made another place) and the team decided to go for a finish rather than the ignomy of buying last years race winning car and not even managing to finish in it) so steve parked it on the circuit and waited for the last few minutes and we finished ,just.

On a more serious note, bear in mind that dispite the fun and enjoyment we get from our motorsport it still is dangerous.  Vincent Dejardin of car 49 at Spa was seriously hurt after an accident occurring in the night.  Despite the helmet and fireproofs he has very serious burns. Vincent was transferred to a specialist burns hospital at Neder where he was put into an artificial coma to help with pain relief. Further news on his condition is to be posted on the Belgian website www.2cvracingteams.be.
