That is great news Paul, thanks for all your help getting the information all together.

If the guys listed can get there money in to the approved sources (Steve Panas or Christine Thompson) depending on your championship staying power as soon as possible that would be a great help.

Dont forget, clean pants for the telly!

Ainslie

Probably, if someone will explain the discrepancy between the original cost (£300) and the current cost (£360)
Cheers

This is a copy of a email sent out on March 14 to Aubrey's email list:

2CV Racing At Mallory Park - Sunday, May 16

Live on Motors TV !!!

This is a unique and new style race meeting. It is promoted by Magnus Laird, one-time racing manager of Caterham Cars and organised by our friends at BARC. The whole event will be shown live on Motors TV - that afternoon, obviously.

The event has eight different classes, each of which will do 2 x 10 minute races. The entry fee for the two races is £300, which includes normal official practice on Sunday morning. We're also told that there will be free refreshments.

Commercial testing is available on the Saturday, at a cost of around £35 for a 20 minute session. This is a separate arangement with Mallory Park.

Magnus Laird has invited the Classic 2CV Racing Club to participate in this unique live televised event, which is something unique in the history of the club's 21 years. But, Motors TV don't pay for the feed, they take it and air it for free. This means that Magnus has to pay all the costs, including circuit hire and the professional live TV production. Neither of those are cheap.

He has set a reasonable entry fee of £300 and needs a full field of 30 cars entered in each class. So far, we've 21 racing 2CV's who've indicated that they'll enter, and only need another 9 by the last day of March, which is extremely encouraging. Well gather up the entries and then sort them into those who have entered the full 2CV series and those who are entering races on a one-off basis, and deal with them accordingly.

The less good news is that if we don't get very near to the 30 entries, Magnus has other series wanting to join in the fun, and we could get deleted.

The post on the club forum currently shows the following:

I can't tell quickly whether this email is going to everyone on the entry list above. If you do get it and you're not there and you want to enter and have your name added to the list, please reply to me by return. Once we have a full list of 30 cars, which looks like it could happen, Steve Panas will deal with entry admin.

If anyone is not sure about entering because they are short of a good engine, then I might be able to lend you one, built by Sammie Fritchley. No charge for the loan, but you'd have to chip in to any repair cost.

Best regards, Martin

According to Martin's email and forum post the cost for Mallory is still £300, not £360

Andrew Bull

Normal races are 2 x 25 minutes for £360 = £7.20 per minute
2 x 10 minute races = £300 / 20 = £15 per min.

Mistakes will be costly as there will be no time to recover back up the field, however it will be very close and frantic racing and the field will hopefully be pretty close and not strung out.  There should be a battle to be had wherever you are on the grid.

Will there still be two qualifying seesions?

Cheers

Yes, pro-rata it's a more expensive race meeting. But, uniquely, you can tell your pals to watch you on TV, for the first time ever (is Motors TV free to air? - does anyone know?) And, it's surely going to be better viewing than boring Bahrain.

We had the choice, we could have turned down the opportunity to participate, but at least 21 teams think that the club made the right choice.

Now, we still need a few more entries.

I twisted Keith's arm, and I gather that Steve Panas is racing with Ainslie, so now we only need another 5, although we may get a few no-shows.
This list was set up in a hurry and we forgot to get you to add contact details. To save numerous copies on here, if your name is listed, then please send your email and mob to:  [email protected] and I'll add them in one go. You'll see that we've dug out a few and inserted them.

<list removed - sorry Martin, but I agree with Andrew - not a good idea to post email addresses and phone numbers on a public forum>
