Paul Robertson

Open letter from your new Chairman, Steve Panas.

Firstly, let me start by offering my heartfelt thanks to Aubrey Brocklebank, our past Chairman, for his hard work and dedication over the last few years. Aubrey also used his extensive business expertise to guide the club successfully through to the status of a limited company. Thus enabling our members to be protected by applying a 'limited' liability to every member of the club

Secondly, our sincere thanks go to our interim Chairman, Paul Robertson, who together with Christine Savage, has enabled the club to function effectively in the last few months.

The arrival of a new Chairman coincides with the start of a new decade and, though sooner than we are ever prepared for, a new racing season. As we make a fresh start to the year we also seek a refreshed look to our club. Nothing ever stays still, and neither should it as we are all 'racers' after all, I and the management team are asking your support to drive the club forward in to our third decade.

All of you will be aware that this year has not been without controversy and while some wounds appear painful and deep now, they will heal. We have always had a very competitive championship and have never been to far from turning rumours in to recriminations. We do our best with the rules we have to encourage excellent, enjoyable, economical racing and as a club will always try and keep this as our ongoing mantra.

With the start of any new season, some may hang up their gloves while others might move to bigger (but not necessarily better) things and it has always been so. It is unfortunate that some situations have led to the retirement of certain members recently but it must be remembered that racing is all about not giving up. We wish them well and look forward to welcoming them back in the future. We will also be looking harder than ever before to promote the club to newcomers while forging stronger bonds with our current supporters as we develop new links with new sponsors.

As a Management Team we will never forget that the role of the club is in the title, that we are first and foremost a 'racing club'. Continuing economic challenges mean that all competitors need to consider costs to enable them to go racing. The successful instigation of our full season payment scheme has helped us remain the best value way of going racing.

The role of the Management Team is to manage all aspects of the clubs operation. Please remember that the Management Team are just keen volunteers who have been (un)lucky enough to be voted on to the team by the members of the racing club. To help the members to support the club it is vital everyone understands how the club functions. Therefore we will be publishing regular updates on publicity, technical issue and financial spend to ensure complete transparency in all the functions that the committee provides.

This is an exciting time with lots of opportunities and developments to consider. We also have a club full of gifted people with a wealth of experience so your ideas are also welcome on how we develop our Club in to the next decade.

Who would have thought 20 years ago that 2CV Racing would be live on television from Mallory in 2010!
